STOTT PILATES® Certified Instructor

Diana Halvorsen – STOTT PILATES® Certified Instructor

Diana Halvorsen earned her Pilates Instructor Certification here in Portland, Oregon, at Pacific Northwest Pilates in 2015. She currently holds a Stott Pilates Method Reformer and Matwork Certification (Essential, Intermediate, and Advanced levels). Diana is also a ZEN•GA Qualified Instructor in both Mat and ZEN•GA Equipment, Stott Pilates fascial training systems.

Diana’s interest in teaching fitness and studying about movement and the body began in high school. She volunteered as an instructor to members of the Nautilus equipment at a local YMCA. Diana went on to study at Black Hills State University in Spearfish SD, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Wellness Management in 1995.

From there, Diana moved to Oregon. She taught fitness at a gym as a personal trainer through ACE. After taking some time off with her young family, she certified as a group fitness instructor in 2006. Diana enjoyed teaching a fusion blend class that included yoga, pilates, and tai chi. She has experience in teaching step and dance classes, including genres like hip-hop, ballet, and tap.

Growing even more passionate about living a healthy lifestyle and teaching fitness, Diana started her career path towards becoming a Movement Professional as a Certified Pilates Instructor in the winter of 2014. Diana had an excellent opportunity to teach pilates alongside her brilliant mentors in a chiropractic office. There, she worked as a chiropractic assistant for four years, teaching both matwork and Reformer to general fitness populations and collaboratively with the therapeutic staff.

Diana’s training philosophy is best described through one of Joseph Pilates quotes. He was the inventor and creator of the classic Pilates Method around 1945. He called his training style “contrology” before it became pilates.

“Contrology develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.” ~Joseph Pilates

Living in a happy, healthy body, and participating in an active lifestyle or training for a sport needs to include cross training in order to feel your optimum, energetic self. We must make it a priority to practice moving our bodies and spine everyday through multiple, three-dimensional directions. We must focus on breathwork as we move from center out.

“If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old. If it is completely flexible at 60, you are young.” ~Joseph Pilates
